MMW is celebrating its 40th anniversary in March. We have grown from 3 members to 15 who attend meetings and 25 on the website. In our last business meeting it was suggested we evaluate where we are and where we want to go in the future. As I contemplated the suggestions and comments that were made I realized that it is time to re-evaluate.
Some of the topics of conversation were as follows:
Does our mission statement express our purpose and objectives that we want to meet?
Should we increase the number of our "workshops" to involve the community, with MMW members teaching them?
What is our membership goal?
Should we look at resurrecting some of the programs that have gone by the wayside, such as our "Authors Day" at the library, and our "Meeting in the Middle" which focused on Michigan writers?
Do we want to use our venues as fundraisers, and if so what will we be raising the money for?
Should the "Writing out of Hibernation" be revamped and changed to involve more of the community and not just the schools?
These are just a few of the things we talked about at the meeting. Since there were so few of us there of course decisions could not be made, but all of us were ask to consider the discussion and provide our input at the next business meeting, which will be in April. So this is our challenge. Where would you like to see the group go? What do you think we should accomplish? Are there changes that need to be made to update our program? If so what are they and how will that make us better? These are all things that need to be contemplated and as the old saying goes, "two heads are better than one." So put on your thinking caps and come up with some ideas that will help us improve as individuals, as writers, and as one of the best writing groups in the state of Michigan. Donnie
